dual pattern camshaft
I run a long-shaft A833.
I suppose I could fabricate a crossover, but with a
3.09x3.55=10.97 starter gear, and splitting gears for a tight rpm drop, I have enough torque and power to spin the 295s to well past the speed limit in Manitoba(100kph).I mean top of second is good to over 80 mph! With this set-up I can trap at 93mph in second-over at just about 6200rpm.Well I could trap at 6200 if the tires would stop spinning:( Yeah my street suspension sux for drag-racing, but I didn't build the car for that. One of the things I built it for,was to annihilate the tires to 65plus mph, and it does that admirably. :)
And cruising with 3.55x.78=2.77s =2133@62(100kph); =great fuel mileage..
And 30mph is 2540 in second;4088 in first, so I always have what I need.
And so I just never lost any sleep over having sacrificed it.Besides, the exhaust system drops off waaay faster now. On a drive-on hoist, with all the required tools on a cart, I have had the 4-speed on the floor in 17 minutes and change! starting from a driving vehicle.Yeah I was impressed;still am.
Truth is I had a little practice. That tranny was down many times that summer, for several different reasons. After the last time, it shifted like butter, up to the highest I dared try it,namely 7200. And it stopped breaking parts,AND I haven't missed a shift since;yahoo!!
Ok, so back to the regularly scheduled topic.
