Stop in for a cup of coffee

If the wind is coming it is a 'blow'.

If ice crystals are coming from clouds, it is 'snow'.

Present tense for wind is 'blowing'.

Present tense for snow is 'snowing'.

But past tense, if the wind came it 'blew'.

So.............

So why is the past tense of snow 'it snowed', when it should be 'it snew'?
