The mods make a big difference in the handling. Using a adjustable power supply helps out a lot. I think the Carrera power packs are set at 14.5 volts. I run my power supply at 10 volts. But the cars run well at that setting also because they don't have the force of the magnets to slow them down too. They drift a bit in the corners, it makes you have to drive the car a bit.
