My daughter's Middle School and the High School next door went into lock down late this morning. I found out when I got an automated message from the school telling us about it and telling all parents and visitors to stay away. They said the State police and local cops were on it and the students were safe but being kept locked in the schools for continued safety. No students or staff would be allowed to leave until further notice. (cue heart stopping)
Turns out that SWAT had a standoff going at a nearby residence and when they finally stormed the place, the primary suspect had escaped. Since he was in the area and they didn't want him to find a hostage opportunity, they locked down the schools.
They finally nabbed the guy about 2 hours later in the same general area and unlocked the schools...and my heart started again.
