Hi all,

Very proud pop here. Figured he just was not ever going to be a car guy like the old man. Well, all be damned he sure fooled me. After a discovery by his mom at a neighbors garage cleanout, he fell in love and with a large amount of his skin in the game he's the proud new owner of a very complete, but slightly disassembled and scruffy 3rd gen 1964 Dart GT hardtop 255 w/factory air(incomplete) currently white and red but originally gold.

Looking forward to father-son time getting this guy back on the road with great advice from everyone here. Thanks in advance!

Thanks everyone. I'm a VW guy but a fan of anything vintage and original, so this is our first domestic. There are remnants of the factory air(compressor bracket, dryer, expansion valve and an odd looking factory hole in the firewall) but missing the heat exchanger and under dash vents and controls. It even has a "cooled by Fridgidair" sticker on the back window. I assume some of this stuff is unavailable or $$$$$. Is it worth it to try and find the missing pieces or just go with a vintage air setup? Again, thanks for all the well wishes.

Welcome to the site! Cool car and son you got there. I was also a classic VW guy before taking on my first american classic recently. Can't go wrong with a factory air Dart GT (but maybe I am partial to them ;) Gotta love that original air conditioning sticker...my Dart has it as well.

Thanks! I know this is not really the place to ask, but do you have any pictures of the air set-up in your Dart? As I mentioned, it's missing quite a bit and I'd at least like to know what we are missing and how it might all go back together someday.

I don't currently have any detailed photos of the system, other than a few that are already uploaded to my "garages" on this site, but I wouldn't mind helping you with that. Gonna take a few days to get some photos tho, I work alot. Depending where you are located you could even come to the SouthBay and see my setup in person. I am almost certain that my system is complete. I'll post back on here once I have some photos.

Got any more photos of your son's Dart? The guys here love photos!

That's so kind of you, thanks. We are ironically in the middle of building a garage apartment at the back of our property, and I did not have any place to put it currently. https://goo.gl/photos/Z8fiKjn8Di6pkVdn8 So, while I figure it out and beg one of my other neighbors, I negotiated them keeping the car till may, so it went back in the PO's garage and got buried with their other junk before I could get some photos. I'll take tons once we get it home. Maybe it'll be sooner than next month.

While not the car he bought, here is a photo of a car very similar in shape, color (but black interior) and condition.

I don't think factory installed air was available in '64. It's probably an add on.

Most all of the early Darts had dealer installed A/C, meaning the interior unit hung under the dash. I've had a few 63, 64, 65, & 66 Darts in the past & the dealer installed A/C's kicked ***, once you got the inside cooled down you cold hang meat if you didn't turn the temp & fan down.

VERY nice car young man!

You may have been a VW guy, but welcome to the world of domestic iron.

You'll get lots of good, and some good sarcastic advice here! Even some good advice without sarcasm!

Great to have you aboard!

Nice, my first car at 15 was a 63, but that was 40 years ago and it wasn't in that great of shape. My icon is a picture of me replacing the engine for the 2nd time. Of course back then I could go to just about any junk yard to get parts. :)

Hey Joe. I took some photos of my A/C system over the weekend and put them into this garage. Take a look if you would like and if there is anything you specifically want to see, let me know.

Those pics were fantastic, thanks again. Looks like all we have is the dryer on the fender, maybe the expansion valve and some holes in the firewall lol. Lots to source if that is even possible. Might you be able to take some interior evap and blower/controls? Again we really appreciate it!
