Stop in for a cup of coffee
Thanks guys. It is a complete tragedy that goes beyond sad.
The young man was a victim of a home invasion a few years ago in which he was nearly beaten to death by his assailants. When the police came and rescued him during the stand off, the assailants were shot and killed in front of him...one of which fell on him pouring their blood all over him as they died.
The treatment for the injuries he sustained included prescription narcotic pain killers to help get him through it and apparently that, plus the psychological trauma of the incident, fueled his addiction to the narcotics that no one realized was going on. Everyone thought he was recovering well from it and moving his life forward with my niece, their purchase of a home together and his getting his dream job.
Now we are finding out that he had been buying (or getting) painkillers from friends...and lately on the street. It turns out his best friend was admitted to the ER (at the time he died) suffering an overdose from the same pills that they apparently bought together...but he survived. My niece had little idea what was going on and only thought he was getting prescriptions from his doc for ongoing pain from the injuries.
The mess keeps getting bigger...and more tragic.
