So I recently purchased a 66 Dart with the 225 "charger" slant 6 under the hood. I purchased it because it is very complete and the former owner was a((Is a)) marine. As a young vet myself and this being the first car my dad ever let me "drive"((say in his lap and pretended to drive)). I grabbed her.

The motor is seized up. Big time. Last known drive was 75. I've let marvel mystery oil and a mix of wd40 and liquid wrench sit in the cylinders for over a week now and haven't got the engine to budge even a little from the crank yet.

I need to find a another slant 6 225. I figured this would be the place to start.

Mopar or No car!

Where about are you located?

Remember, if you put a '68-up engine in front of a '67-down transmission, you need to install a spacer ring to take up the space between the large ('68+) crankshaft rear counterbore and the small (-67) torque converter nose. The ring isn't difficult or expensive to get; look for user Charrlie_S on here or on slantsix.org .

This is a fact finding thread. The op has a wanted thread already running. Please don't respond to this thread with engines you have but post on this thread. [WANTED] - Looking For Slant 6

How are You trying to turn the engine? Just curious. A good stream of PB Blaster in each may not hurt either, & I'd be patient for a bit, it will be much easier to pull apart if You
can get it to roll over of course. I worked on a locked up 3.9 V6 in the parts Dak I bought, took just over 2 mos. of on & off trying, then "crick!!" it moved a tiny bit. That was
it from there I had it maybe moving the piston 3/8-1/2" that eve., drowned it again & by the weekend it was rollin'. Good luck & I'm sure a member here will hook You up!!
 And welcome to FABO!!

make sure starter ant locked ingaged if still in car...remove all the belts as what thay power could be froze up to,..remove valve cover see if you can move rockers, valves and anything else that could bind up motor...

As well, it may be locked up valve stems. So perhaps remove the rocker gear, and then you can check each valve to be sure the stems are free. If they are not all free then the head will have to come off.
Seriously tho;
The engine is, IMO, gonna have to come apart anyway with 40 years of moisture gunking up at least one and perhaps two cylinders.
If this car has a manual trans, make sure it's in neutral, lol

I took the valve cover off and played around, no movement in anything there. Zero play.

I agree that at this point the motor will 80% chance need to be rebuilt. That's a problem in my area as there aren't many mechanics who can work on slant 6s and even less of this age.

there easy motors to work on just a lil one sided...lol but for what a good runner 225 can be had for,...thats what id do,..then disassembly your locked up motor and build it your self, if it can be fixed,..original always worth more money!

Oh, without a doubt she needs a rebuild at this point, I'm just hoping it frees up to make Your life easier. Both removing it & pulling it apart to rebuild.
Are You using the crank bolt from a big block to try & turn this puppy? dirty white boy made a couple of good calls, I just picked up a '62 valiant 170
& the water pump was locked up solid, also it's a long shot but the starter could've stuck engaged & is frozen up itself...good thing it's a slanty......
easy to pull!!! The valve stems are easy to check, put a small section of furring strip etc. on the rocker above the valve & give it a rap w/a med hammer.
If it bounces your good, don't worry about touching the piston, they're a good ways down even at TDC. Unless You really slug it, You're not shootin' for a
prize at the fair!!:D

73dart360, where in Fort Laudardale? I am in Miramar and I am resurrecting a 1966 Dodge Dart Sedan Post and probably will need a slant 6 since the one in my car is rusted. Would like to know how much you want for it.

Try filling the cylinders with white vinegar. Also, don't try to free it by only spinning it in one direction.
Pull the starter out, and with a big screwdriver, work the ring gear teeth back and forth a tiny bit at a time. Be patient and persistent and 95% of the time you can get them unstuck.
Yes, you're also probably going to have to rebuild it, but at least you can start with a running engine.

My 64 225 had sat for about 32 yrs before I got it. The FABO guy I bought it from said the engine would spin but after shipping the car halfway across the country, no go. It had a bad starter but even after removing it and trying to turn it over with a breaker bar with the plugs out, I found out it was locked. I proceeded to systematically take it apart. The rods were frozen solid on the wrist pins for cylinders 2 thru 6. Ironically, #1 cylinder had rust in the bore but it was the only one that was free. I think it may have been spinning when he tried to start it, but the rods locked up due to no oil. And the oil holes in the rocker arm shaft were plugged.

Everything is good now after a complete rebuild.

Had a225 sat in montana for 20 yrs. Marvel Mystery Oil, PB Blaster, and ATF 2 weeks each. Pulled head and bug nest or something in #2. Probably exhaust valve open cause air cleaner on. Pulled rest of pistons. Have to come out the top. Backed #2 up & wire wheeled gunk out. Came right out but corrosion pits needed .030 bore. Instead dropped in salvage motor for 1/3 price of machine work. Love knocking around in my 65 Valiant 200 now while gathering money & parts for complete rebuild of 64 Barracuda.

Bought the car from a guy in Dania Beach. One owner 62,000 original, but was outside for 15 years and he took the cilynder head out and it is all rusted and can not be rebuilt. Car was all rusted also, but I have been doing the work in my garage. Does the engine turns ok?
