Just to make sure I understand - use the original piece that broke out and tape it in place on the outside and put the patch on the inside? I feel a lot better about attempting this after hearing from you all. Thanks for that.
Since you have the piece that broke out, I would definitely use it.
I'd suggest flipping the console over and get that piece back in place using some masking tape on the outside face and patch it from the back. Wait for that to set and then fill in the visible side.
If that piece fits tight you may be able to get by just using a 2-part epoxy and for-go the mess of fiberglass. The fiberglass seemed really strong though.
