Hi guys, installing my IH crank scraper...I haven't received any instructions with it, but it's somewhat self explanatory.
The issue I have is when laying the scraper on the block, the weld bungs lay on the block webbing and "kick" up the inside edge of the scraper about 1/16", making it not parallel with the block or pan.
I can't imagine you just crank the pan down over this??
IH is very hard to get a hold of and have been unable to retrieve any info from them.
Any info much appreciated!!
I can get pics later if necessary.

I don't know why there aren't any instructions. Do you have the Teflon scraper?

If the welds are holding the scraper off the pan rail, you may need to grind down the welds a bit. I'd like to see pictures before you grind on it.

Sometimes it's easier to get Kevin by PM on speed talk if you are a member there.

yes, Teflon scraper was laying in the box - I can only assume I need to disassemble the two sheetmetal halves (they were bolted together) and install the Teflon portion. I did indeed consider grinding the weld down, but then there wouldn't be any weld left to hold the welded in stud.....

I got instructions with mine, I can try and find them if you wish, pictures of problem area would help

ok, took some pics.....my gut feeling is that I will have to install a second gasket between the scraper and block - I was told that wouldn't be necessary when I first ordered this thing, but I really don't see a way around this???

well, I got some info - just grind the welds down a little bit and let the rtv do the rest.......can't say as I'm impressed......maybe I don't even run this scraper since the stud girdle may somewhat act as a scraper? I really don't want a leaky joint....

If you do it right they don't leak. IIRC you don't use any gaskets.

BTW, most of those welds should be inside the pan rail. The scraper goes up against the cap. Put the Teflon in it, fit it up and seal it.

A girdle is not a scraper.

I disagree - ALL welds should be inside the pan rail or OFF the webbing, in this case there are 6 welds inside the rail and 7 welds on the rail and webbing....total hack - i would be ashamed to put my name on something like this......ticks me off that 4 minutes after you get off the phone your credit card is charged, and 1 year later you still gotta call and bug to get the product you paid for! and to top it off you still have to reinvent the wheel - c'mon!

Interesting. I was planning on buying their non-teflon scraper. It's not likely to have the same issue as yours, but based on your customer experience maybe I'll reconsider.

Since I use them, I'd say to buy the Teflon. I'm still having a problem getting what the OP is having issues with. The welds should all be inside the pan rail. And you don't use a gasket.

The Teflon isn't much more, and it's a better scraper. I can go pull my instructions, but I can't post them so it won't do the OP any good.

Kevin Johnson is pretty much a one man show. I've never had a problem with contacting him.

the problem I have is that the welds we are talking about land RIGHT on the mating surface between the scraper and the block, tell Kevin that the welds should be on the inside of the pan rail, I already know that....I reeingineered the piece and fixed it already.....and I was wrong, there were 8 welds that landed on the mating surface, not 7.......if my father asked me to fabricate a scraper for him and this is what I gave him, I'm not sure what he would tell me.....
now onto fixing the holes for the fasteners that attach this thing to the block, out of the 9 holes only 2 match up!!!!!! unreal! if crank scrapers are your claim to fame and this is what you sell to the people - wow.......

There is something going on here. My crank scraper is about 1 year old. It dropped on. So did the down scraper. I spent maybe, maybe an half hour fitting the Teflon. There were no welds sticking up on mine.

I guess I could pull the engine, yank the pan off and take pictures. It is such a simple thing I didn't bother to take pictures while I was doing it.

I just looked back through your posts.

Post number 6 is possibly your best option. I wouldn't bother using it. When it leaks you'll be pissed. You should have just sent it back to Kevin and asked for a refund.
