I know this is an older thread but I was hoping you don't mind me asking you a question ...
I too have been considering the 68' 4speed camshaft and was wondering if it is much hotter than the 340 automatic camshaft ? I have a 70' Dart Swinger ( was /6 automatic ) , I am looking to freshen up my 69' short block , have a fresh set of 308 heads and LD340 intake but have not decided on a camshaft as of yet . Is there a measurable " seat of the pants " difference between the 340 automatic and 4speed camshafts ? A large part of me wants to have a rude cam that sounds mean and nasty but realistically speaking , at 57 years young I don't want be laying under the car or bent over the front fender working on the car for hours on end like I did as a kid . I have enjoyed working on my cars over the years but I'm now more inclinded to want to just get in a realiable car with some power on tap and enjoy the ride .
I should mention that I have rebuilt 833 that will be used behind my 340 which is yet to be built . My last engine build was in 1989 when I built a 70' 440-6 with a Hemi grind cam so I'm due and looking forward this build.
