Stop in for a cup of coffee

My BIL who had the liver transplant has apparently lost his mind.

It started last Saturday when he threw out his care giver and then called someone and took his cat in a carrier and disappeared for a few hours (he's not supposed to leave the house or lift anything). We reported him as a missing person thinking he was in insulin shock or something and the Police started searching for him. They found him back at home a few hours later but he wouldn't answer the door or respond to them through the open window they were yelling into. They were about to break down the door when he finally yelled out that he was fine and just wanted everyone to go the F*** away.

We spoke with him later that day and tried to get him to understand that he needed to comply with the medical requirements during this critical phase of his recovery but it got ugly and I finally gave him an ultimatum of comply or kiss all the support goodbye (we and his parents are his sole financial support). The hospital he got the transplant from was fully on board with the approach and were watching it all.

He complied for a few days, but kept doing things well beyond what they told him he should. Late this afternoon, he ran out of painkillers (he's been apparently taking at double and triple the amount prescribed) and demanded his care giver take him back to the transplant hospital to get more. We alerted the hospital and they were ready for him with a plan for physical and psychiatric evaluation.

5 hours later, after being belligerent, threatening and cursing out everyone who came near him, they have admitted him as a "Psych" patient against his will because he is a "danger to himself and others".

I'm not convinced this is something new or a change in his mental state. I think his dumb-*** believed that the day after he got the transplant, life was back to normal and all his to dictate how it would go. I truly think he has always been mentally unbalanced and we are just seeing it again after a few years of him being subdued by the spectre of likely death from the liver cancer. Now that he feels that threat has passed, he back to being full-on idiot dumb-***.
