To Stroker a 360 or Not

I hope the Carcraft 360 build by IMM gets published soon. Most people that want a responsive daily driver/cruiser would be happy with the torque and power it will show, I am almost certain. Then there are those nut cases (thinking of myself here first!) that too much is just right, and stuff a 535 BB in a 65 Dart and hope to hook it up on the street. That didn't work well, LOL. It did post an 11.05 on its' first 1/4 mile pass, though!
Mexmarine, in a nut shell, if you want lots of response down low, and the feeling of instant torque, go more cubes and tight converter, moderate cam, small tube headers, moderate sized carb. Think how a 440 and stock automatic would work in a very light car, as an example. That would be one way to build it. The faster you want to ultimately go, the more compromises will have to be made for the same cubes. If you like the way a high strung motor sounds, and don't mind losing that instant , way down low response, you can consider a looser converter and bigger cam. I hope this gives you something to chew on. Like I said before, speed (HP)costs money. So does extra torque, but not as much.
From what I read on here it is pretty hard to beat a 5.9 Magnum motor warmed over for best return on the $$ spent. Here is one idea of a low budget build. The stock rods and crank are plenty strong for most applications, overbore replacement pistons can be had cheap that don't need a rebalance, and if you are really cash poor a Thermoquad carb on a stock cast intake, using EQ heads with the right bolt pattern, ought to make a very nice piece for the $$. The largest investment would be in basics, like the overbore and pistons, and good head castings. If you are lucky enough to find a very good 5.9, you might not even have to mess with the overbore, making it even cheaper.
