Looks good, was thinking of that myself, but wasn't sure how it would work out.

Just paint it.... My 340 Swinger was ordered with a painted top. All of the trim is still used just like a vynal top.

That would be the safe option, just a little more body work to smooth out the inevitable rust pits.
