Experiencing an odd effect here. My car is running fine, but when I accelerate out of corners, there's a metallic clicking noise that is very loud. It only clicks while I have my foot on the gas; when I let off it goes away and doesn't come back. It sounds like something may be making contact with the driveshaft or wheels, but I'm not seeing any clearance issues at all under here. Driving down the road it's nonexistent.

As o said, it sounds metallic, like contact, though sometimes I swear it sounds like something is sparking. That said, it doesn't dim the lights or cause any charging issues at all.

Any ideas where to look? I'm stumped.

EDIt: I should add, the clicking cannot be replicated in neutral or park, has to be in drive. The noise appears to be coming from the center-right side, probably further back than the engine bay. Honestly sounds like the exhaust pipe is hitting something, but under the car I can't see where.

EDIT EDIT: the car has new axle bearings and brand new front wheel bearings. The driveshaft is tight, not much play at all in the u joints. Transmission is full of clean fluid. The noise only started after replacing my muffler and removing the tailpipe.

only on corners? could be the rear diff

Or an exhaust gasket after messing with the pipes.
Opens on a corner and closes back up going straight, so I would go over everything from the motor back checking all the bolts and flanges.

The famous loose flex plate bolt comes to mind too, but doesn't seem like that would only be during cornering under accelerations.

A loose or worn out transmission mount. Check your wheel nuts too.

Very odd that it's only when coming out of corners. Does your car have wheel covers? And confirm it's only when accelerating out of corners, and not when accelerating in general?

Lol, On acceleration from a stop and especially on left turns, my 9-1/4' LS (corporate clutch type) would click embarrassingly loud without the friction modifier additive.

Yup, wheel covers is a good call to check.
If there are covers pop em off and see if the noise is still there..

Detroit locker. are your tires rubbing the outer fenderwell trim? The rear can shift over a tad in a turn and mabe you got a high point on the tread thats catching something.

I have finally driven my fish enough to confirm it has a Detroit locker, and it sounds like what u describe, mostly.

did you put green bearings on the rear, some times you have to remove the adjuster block in the rear end?

Jeff

A bit of a long shot but I had a problem like this for a while, turns out my lower shock mount bolt was loose on the passenger side, I was able to replicate the noise to a lesser extent by grabbing the shock and twisting it. Might be worth checking out if the above solutions don't get you taken care of...

How about some more info, about the car. Year, model, engine, trans, rear, etc?

Thanks for the replies everybody! I'm pretty sure it's not Ujoint or diff-related since the sound is coming from the front half of the vehicle.

More observations:
-comes from front half of vehicle
-is not exhaust-related (except possibly where it bolts to the manifold, haven't checked)
-the sound primarily happens in 2nd gear, but will click once or twice on other gears if throttle is floored accelerating from a low speed
-sound doesn't appear to be coming from the wheels
-sound is most evident when turning left, as in merging on a freeway. Never happens when steering to the right.

Im now suspecting it may be related to throttle linkage vibrating against something. For those interested, it's my '68 Dart 270, 225/904, 2.76 gears, and a Holley 390 4bbl.

Was this ever resolved? I have a similar sound, but in the driver's side, doesn't matter if I'm turning, just how hard I'm accelerating. If I'm gentle or just maintaining speed it's quiet. Can't hear it at all from outside the car or under the hood. Just inside the car. I thought it was my cheapie tach bc it kind of sounds like a bad mechanical gauge. Guessing exhaust leak bc it times with the exhaust pulse

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. Life has been crazy so I didn't check back on this til just now. Yes, it is an exhaust leak...I didn't have the clamp tight enough on the pipe going into the muffler.
