727 shift probs

Dropping the pan doesn't affect the bands. You have a problem that could be front band related so that's why I suggested it. The front band adjustment is located on the driver's side of the trans right above the shift linkage so you can do it without taking the pan off. By your description I think it'd behove you to check it cause if it's loose it could smoke the band and that'd mean a trans rebuild.

btw: when doing a trans service i.e. replace fluid and filter, it's common place to check/adjust the bands on a torqueflite since their not self adjusting.

Thanks for your directions, I've only had the car since last fall and little if any experience with the 727. In my investigation, you and others recommendation of doing the band adjustments each time the pan is dropped is 'standard practice' and is now on my to do list.

Update: I did my first 'flush' today using type F fluid, and did a test drive, went home and topped of the fluid level, and drove it most of the afternoon, and everything's back to normal. No slipping, and romping on it from a dead stop, she's chirping the tires when it shifts, etc.

Hard to say if flushing it made any difference, poss air in the lines, who knows..

I will have it out again tomorrow just to say 'all is ok'. I appreciate everyone's input, I've learned a lot.

On to my next project, new fender-top turn signals.. but that's another thread.

Thanks guys.
