Too much fuel?

-
i had same problem, found a large vacuum hose loose at rear of carb,it would start, but had to keep screw on carb all the way down or hold it at about 2000 rpm to keep it running, after i fixed vacuum leak it idled down at about 800 rpm with no trouble, have you got gas tank on car are running on a fuel cell in the trunk, if you have a manual fuel pump and a fuel cell that gravity flows to your pump, it may be letting too much fuel pressure on your pump, had this problem on a 70 duster, keep fuel cell as close to level with fuel pump as possible, if you have fire backfiring thru carb, you definately have the timing off or cross wired
I'm going to wind up replacing all the vaccum hoses once i sort out where every one of them go.

I went through and cleaned it out when i put it back on the car.
Here is the procedure to check your floats. The needle may not be sealing properly too. I would recommend a rebuild. It's pretty easy. Take pictures throughout the process.

if it is dribbling fuel into the throat at idle something is not allowing the needles to seat
this could be
too much fuel pressure
a poorly adjusted float
a leaking float (filled with fuel, it does not, in fact, float)
junk in the carb that sits where the needle should seat

i just noticed the very first post claimed the floats were operating as should...are we still standing by this?

no might be the time to rip that intake and go with a 4 barrel

something else to consider at this point is that cam
did you install it during this rebuild or was it installed, broken in, and ran previously?

Its a fresh rebuild. Ive already picked up a 340 4bbl intake and a holley 650 that i went through and rebuilt.
Ive heard about the throttle and/or transmission kickdown not matching up. How do it fix that if it doesnt work?

You need the proper 4 barrel throttle bracket and kickdown linkage

But places like bouchilon and lokar make kickdown cables that may be easier to find

Okay, so i put on the holley 1850 and the 72 340 intake. And it rand greak for a while, but now its not idling and shaking at rpms below like 2500. I tried timing it by ear but my light is showing like 30btdc at idle when i get it to idle.
