Also check that stupid 2 pin connector where the distributor connects, as I have had two cars that had issues because of that plug.
Squeeze the female socket on each end of that plug to make sure they connect.
It does sound like a lack of fuel though.
Does it shoot fuel into the carb when the throttle is pumped?
Is there a spark to ground out of the distributor end of the coil wire?
Or if you put a timing light on the coil wire and crank it does the light flash about every 1/2 second?
Answer these and you'll find your problem.
