After a couple years of driving the my 71 Scamp with manual steering I'm considering putting the power steering back in. However when I pulled it I had a cooler, that I thought I would never use so I sold it. I dont see anything in my service manual about it and doing a google search came up with some pictures, but hard to say. The bracket and mounting seemed like a perfect fit so an aftermarket unit doesnt make much sense to me.

Im wondering if this finned cooler was factory or after market and how many of you have a cooler on your power steering??

This was my old unit.

I had a 77 Monaco highway patrol car that had one of herefrom the factory

Coolers were standard equipment when the car was equipped with the performance axle package.
3.54, 3.55, 3.91, 4.10 axle ratios.

Or as another poster replied, lots of times on fleet vehicles.
Fire dept. police department, heavy duty applications.

Those coolers alone, used, run lots of $$$$$$ to buy used, in this day and age.
They at one time were repoped, but only one run of them was ever produced, and that was it.
During the early part of this year, i sold one off that i had for decades, for two hundred bucks, and later found out that was cheap, with my price.

Well that last part is not what I wanted to hear.. I sold my entire pump and cooler for $100 LOL

I know a guy that's been advertising one on ebay for $400.00 or best offer.
And knowing what i now know, he will probably get that, or close to it, from the right buyer.
When they were at one time repoped, they were $275.00 - $300.00 depending on the style that you required.

Bought everything in the photo for $75. Think I paid $5 for the cooler.

Nice score, that cooler you have has a different bracket than my original one.. I've seen that one around, but not the style in my pic.. I'll probably end up running the power steering with no cooler by the looks of it.

The one in your picture is for a SAGINAW power steering pump.

If one can find one for sale, these days, and the seller doesn't have a clue what they sell for, these days, and get one dirt cheap, you got lucky, and scored big time.

It was bolted to a 1970 AAR 340 cuda Federal power steering pump. Don't care. It was $5

when i went to hydraboost brakes, i added an external cooler in front of the radiator. less than $30.. cheaper option than the factory one if you feel you need it.

This one came out of a 1970 Dart 340 with a 3:55 sure grip. I was thinking of getting rid of it but didn't know it was rare.

If you have to post one FOR A YEAR on ebay, that is not the "going price!!!!"
