318 head porting for the average joe

Thanks guys. As mentioned I did my factory 273 heads a couple years ago.
With my new engine build Im hoping to make some "homemade" HP and "improve" on factory design.
When I did it the 1st time I used carbide burrs. No drum rolls. I honestly never thought to use those.
I do have a ton of them I bought at an auction. I'll post pics.
Carbide burrs are $$$. Up here a decent one is like $40 easy.
Thanks again.
Ssr is short side radius. Use search to find out more. Push rod pinch is the cast area that restricts the flow where the pushrod hole is drilled. I would post some pics but I am on my phone.

Seriously (Short side radius ) meaning the shape of the bottom of the port pathway. That's number one ,to win the game. And a books and chapters to read ,to get it right. Or grab a bad cylinder head ,and not carve ,and ask questions.
"Pushrod pinch"? That's the restriction you see on an LA head ,around the pushrod. Unless you need 280 c.f.m. on a,intake port. Don't worry about it.

Look at post #160. See how the ports narrow immediately after the opening in the far side of each port? That's the pushrod pinch. The pushrods go through the head just the other side of each of those pinched areas. Make sense?

Agreed!
It's not the restriction that you may think. The ssr is vary capable of doing its job with a little cleanup. When you start to change the shape of the ssr, you disrupt EVERYTHING in the port and the combustion chamber.
