We had a helluva day. Retrieved Bens personal effects from the hospital, got keys to his apartment back from the police, checked on his cats and spoke to his friends and neighbors.

Everywhere we went we heard tales of his doing drugs again and what we found in his apartment confirmed it.

His entire life had been a cluster **** of drugs, alcohol and prison. He straightened out once he was diagnosed with liver cancer and stayed that way for 5 years. But once he got the transplant, he apparently saw it as a big reset button and went right back to being what he was before.

We spent hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars supporting him, giving him a place to live and providing emotional support to get him the second chance of a transplant. In the end, he repaid us by taking a giant **** on all of it.

Can lead a Horse to water but you can't make it drink... as cliche as that is, it is true with humans as well. Some people just never are able to understand what they are doing to themselves or those around them. My half sister has been revived by that Narcan shot on 4 occasions now, once after she and her boyfriend hit a semi truck head on at 70 mph. He died, she survived . She's heavy into meth despite numerous ODs, arrests and interventions. She's got two kids that she doesn't know the father of. Both were born really premature and who knows exactly why damage they have from her drugs.

That said, I've just grown heartless to it and concluded that if that's how she chooses to live her life, so be it.
