Hi folks, kind of new to the form and I'm looking at a 1971 duster. Not sure if it's been talked about here before but it has a couple of cool options including the retractable roof. Can anybody shed some light on what this car is worth in the real world. Obviously it is at a dealer right now and I spoke with the gentleman today and it seems like a very solid car. Probably an 8 or 9 in condition. There is a build sheet that is with it. Fender tag appears to be original. Any help would be great thanks Eric

Hard to say without seeing it in person, but it looks from the one pic to be a cast crank engine, wrong for 71, it's a non-numbers matching car, and very obviously they cut the hood for scoops that weren't avaliable on 71 340 dusters....it does look nicely done, I'd say real world would be about 10-14k

If the car is as good as it looks in pics I would say $20000 but don't think you will have a chance of getting if for that.

Do they have documentation for the sunroof. It looks like something that was offered later. Or dealer installed? I think it looks like a nice car. 43k seem steep. Maybe mid to high 20's is where I think real money is. All these dealers seem to ask a lot.

Calvert Co. They're pricing their stuff to go for the big bucks in D.C. Way steep, even if it's real. 20k if numbers matching. Looks like the early cloth sunroof, so that's rare. Color scheme is gorgeous, as long as you like black.

Folding sunroof, TX9, 4 speed makes it one of the rarest and desirable 70-71 340 cars. It's was offered in 71.

More folding roof info here: 1972 Dodge Demon 340 SunRoof car

Need to look this one over with a fine comb. Lot of resto details missed/skipped for a special car like this.

When a car has what seems to be the "perfect" combination of options... you really have to be on the ball and have your eyes wide open.

radiator support #'s
Package tray #'s
Build sheet
I think 71 340's had torque boxes but don't know if it was hit or miss.
REALLY NEED pre restoration photos

I don't see the V3 code on the fender tag.

So looks like someone grafted on roof cartridge. So what else did he "graft" on?

Love the input guys, thank you!
Scoops only available on Twister Dusters, not 340 models
It is desirable in that it's a black on black 4 speed car. It doesn't have much in the way of options other than it being black. I don't see a code for the sunroof on the tag. Perhaps it was done at the dealership or something, but more than likely whoever restored it may have added it. They did add the go wing as that is not on the tag either.

Yes. Never offered scoops on 70-71 duster 340 cars.

But did come with duster twister model 318 and /6 cars.
Any proof of this, I thought the twin scoops and dual snorkel were options even on the 340 cars ? ... so every 340 duster(70-71) with scoops was added after production ?

You are wrong

I meant no disrespect. It's a good looking car but seems high 2 me

If it’s being sold by a dealer you can bet it’s at least $10k over priced. They need to start high knowing rarely anyone buys a used car at sticker/asking price.

As others have said, there are a few things that don’t add up with this car based on the description and the fender tag. Why is the ground wire for the battery attached to the wrong bolt on the engine? The bolt it should be bolted to is there but it’s attached to an intake manifold bolt? The throttle return spring bracket looks weird too.

There shouldn’t be so many questions if the car was restored properly.

No offense taken at all. That's why I started this thread because I know nothing about the value of some of these a bodies. I'm learning a lot tonight.

J54 is the sport hood code. Go to Hamtramck-historical.com and look at the Duster 1970-1971 option code books and you'll see no sport hood option available on 340 Duster.

Yes they are all added. Just a matter of drilling holes. And notice scoop location varies with these bolt on additions. Some look downright goofball.

If your serious about the car. Here's where I would start . First find vin number on block trans etc. See if they match. Then I'd wanna see build sheet to verify options. Then when u have that info come back here and let us read through it all 2 help u
