From Jim Stafords rendition of Mr. Bojangles... "I wonder why a dog don't get to live too long, But it still has to die old?"
We've known this day was coming for about 6 months.
So literally, I dug a grave. Nikita rests right beside Roxanne. Roxanne? That was 17 years ago. I sure aint the man I used to be. I hurt all over! Which brings to mind another lyric..."I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance. Crying again.
I hope yall don't mind too much my sharing this here. FABO is the closest thing to social media that I do.

I am awful sorry. You have my condolences.

Sorry for your loss. He looks like a great friend.

They don’t live long, but their brief presence enriches us forever.

Sorry for your loss.

Unconditional love and all good. They are always in our thoughts.

Sorry for your loss.
I know how much it hurts.....
The older I get the worse it is.
I told my wife after the last one that I didn't want to have any more dogs so I wouldn't have to go through it again.
Didn't last long, 2 labs later.

Stay strong. That relationship you've had
Is beautiful. And everlasting. And personal.
God knows.

Take care.

Dave

I am so sorry and know exactly how you are feeling. I just had to do the same on Friday for my old boy, Kirby who was almost 18 years old. I've cried 4 days in a row now, though each day has been better than the one before. I hope the same for you, that it gets a little easier each day.

After a while the memories become sweeter than the pain. Rest in peace Nikita.

Had to put my best friend in the world down last year. By far the worst day I ever had...but the time I had with him was worth the pain.
You gave him a great life, remember that when it hurts the most.

So sorry for your loss I understand your pain I've been thru it myself it will feel better but you never forget. I now have a 1 year old Husky after putting down my best friend of 13 years that also was a Husky. People that don't have pets don't understand how close we get to them

I feel for you.sorry for your loss. They make good friends. My lab is getting up there. Hoping for a couple more years.she is getting slow, would like to let her run free to go on little tours, but now that she’s deaf im fearful she would get run over.

So sorry to hear RedFish. RIP Nikita.

Like Tooljunkie, my lab is getting up there. He's turning 11 in April.

Sorry to read Ben. My son Garrett had to dig a grave for Jemma as Lori had to out her down when I was out in Saskatchewan.
Very tough.
Our condolences
Nikita is beautiful!

You have my sympathy. And so do the rest of you who lost your friends. It hurts just reading about it but it helps you get through the pain when you let others know.

A dog is Gods gift to us, to show how love is supposed to be. Don't be sad, he was there every minute, and loved you like there was nobody else in the world! He's going to continue to share his love for years to come, and every time you think of him, it's because of that love. RIP Nikita!!

Sorry to hear, at least Your Friend had love & support 'till the end, & that's a great thing......................

I'm very sorry for your loss. Their little lives just aren't long enough! In a way, I think they know their time here is limited....and that's the reason the give so much love in a short amount of time. R.I.P. Nikita. :( I've had to get 2 put down in order to end their suffering, and it's a horrible feeling even if it's the right thing to do. My little girl is going on 13, and is starting to slow down..and it scares me to death. I've never had one love me like this one does. We got her when she was a year old in 2006, and me and her have been down like 4 flat tires since the first minute!

So sorry for your loss...Almost lost my 15 year old Lhasa Apso Buddy the other night.Got a rawhide stuck in his throat and I had to do a Doggie heimlich to get it out.

Thanks guys. Still awake here at 2:AM. Up all night with aching body isn't new. The additional side order of saddened heart might be a first.
A woman gives birth and says, "I'll never go through that again". A man looses his dog and says, "I'll never go through that again". There were 8 years between our 2 children. Only 3 years between Roxanne and Nikita. Never say never huh? Right now I'm thinking I'll tear down my dog lot. Call it my menapaws. If the wife should bring home a lap breed later on, so be it.

Sorry for your loss. Our pets are like our kids, only with a shorter life. Buddy has been gone for over a year, and I still miss him.

Our family condolences to our to you and your family. We're sorry for your loss.
Dogs are special. Both my wife and I are 'dog people' and lost our two "fur kids" midway through 2017. I still walk in the house after work and look for them where they always were to greet us when we returned home from being out.
Always keep the good memories close to your heart. That's the way our loved ones live on with us forever until we're all able to meet again.
Nikita is now in the "land of the slow squirrels" and waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My wife recently rescued a "lap breed", but it's just not the same. I'm still missing my Rhodesian Ridgeback.
In fact, last nights dinner brought back happy memories as it was one of his favorites. We fixed some fried shrimp and I remembered how he'd sit by the dinner table patiently waiting for the shrimp tails.

Remember the great times and Nikita will always be there with you.
