Wheel and tire combo on a 72 Duster

I am looking to put 15”x7” on the front and 15”x 8” Cragar SSs on my Duster, but the issue I’m seeking help with is the best looking tires to go with them. I’m thinking about going with a 255/60/15 on the back. I don’t want a tire that’s has a bunch of sidewall...don’t care for that look. Please share your pics and thoughts so I can get some ideas.

Thanks,
Brennon

Brennon,
You specifically said that you have 15" wheels in mind....because we generally need a ~26" or so tire you can see how you'll end up with something like 5.5" of sidewall. IMO, this looks "correct" on these cars but it sounds like you're looking for something more modern.

Of course you could run smaller outer diameter for less sidewall but the car will start to look awfully funny even before you start to run into ground clearance issues. I think you're looking for larger diameter wheels.

@72bluNblu is one of the sharpest guys on this topic. He's running 18" wheels on his Duster/Demon clone and while I never would have guessed that it was possible, they look incredible, IMO. He also has 17" wheels on his Challenger that have a very classic looking style but also have a bit less sidewall so they more or less split the difference between the very modern 18" and look that we're all used to.

Another relatively popular option is to find a set of 2001-2004 Mustang "Bullitt" 17" wheels. They will require some minor modification but they are pretty sharp on our A-Bodies as well.
