I have seen and done some searching about TTI and Schumacher
headers for the 440 into a Duster. My question is who has personal experience with these headers, fitment wise?, I notice it seems the Schumachers will fit better because they are a smaller tube. My motor I would estimate makes 500ish HP, so I dont want to constrict the motor if necessary but I also would like the ability to get past my steering box, starter and torsion bars without having to smash up the header, which the someone who installed this motor for my father 17 years ago already did. I do know dented headers have little impact on HP as has bee proven on a few video dyno tests, but they look like **** and everything is very close to touching. Thanks in advance for any advice and pictures.

I installed my 440 using Schumacher motor mounts and shims. Installed Schumacher headers with manual steering. I had no problems at all. My motor made 500 HP on the Dyno. Car ran it fastest time of 11.35s. It will average in the 11.40s depending on the weather. Yes the TTIs would make more HP, how much is the question.

Question, The shims, are they needed for the TRI-Y install on the 440?

I didn't use shims on my 440 69 Barracuda install with stock big block mounts and insulators. Not sure what other people have done.

I have 1-3/4 TTI headers on my 426 low deck, made 525 hp and 552 tq. TTI doesnt make a 1-7/8 primary tube A body B motor header. They fit well , i can get all the spark plugs from the top except for #6 has to be had from the bottom.

I used them for more clearance for the oil pump and filter. The Schumacher mounts could move from the torque down at the track, just like any other rubber mounts. Also install a Schumacher torque strap. I did not want solid motor mounts. Have never had an issue with this set up.

I have Schumacher in my 440 dart with their mounts so far so good cleared the power steering box.

If you want the ultimate for power, yes the TTI's. The ultimate ease of installation Schumacher tri-y's.I have run Schumacher's on a 451 Stroker B body(ran 11.90's street trim) and a 500'' B body(street driven only) The TTI's 440 drag only Duster. For a car mostly used on the street the tri-y's can't be beat.I really like them and they make good power. My next is a 361 B in a 63 Fury and will be using the Schumacher's.

Exactly why I love this forum, you guys are great thank you for the help...............68 dodge is that the factory manual steering box?

I have had a set of chromed headers on order from Schumacher since Dec 22. They are for my'73 Duster 383. Back order is expected end of April. (Were expected end of Feb) They won't tell me what the problem is, but it is at the manufacturer. Worth the wait, I guess. Chose them because of installation without any modification. Question I have is ....Will I need to get different motor mounts? Should I get the parts that mate to the headers and will swivel to any direction to mate with the exhaust pipes?

Space duster, It may be who makes them for Schumacher. I know that headers made for Clifford the 6 cylinder people,a minimum of 25 sets have to be on order for them to tool up and make a run.
Check with Mike at Schumacher if they come with the flanges to make head pipes. I believe they do. One set I made, the other was from the muffler shop

I did check with Mike. Nice guy. Offered refund and couldn't do anything to speed it up. I didn't think about the bender needing a descent lot to tool up. This is somewhat of a specialty. My biggest problem is I need to pull the trans and it would make it convenient if I could put the headers on at the same time while the motor is loose. I'm not POd at Schumcher, but, if your looking for 383s on a Duster, ask the right questions before ordering.

I have the Schumacher's on my 383, tons of room. I changed all eight plugs from the top in 30 minutes just a couple weeks ago. FYI...TTI makes shorty headers also..

I've run both on my 440 dart. The power difference is noticeable but more so on a timeslip than seat of the pants. For the money spent and fitment I'd always go TTI from now on.

What was the time slip difference and was the weather the same when you ran each time?

My car only changes hundreths with the weather. The weather was similar though. I saw about .4 average difference in ET which is very similar to the testing that you can find on TTI vs. Schumacher headers.

What size tubes and collector on the TTI's.

Has anyone put TTIs on a 73 Duster 383 with Edelbrock Al heads? Does the engine or auto trans need to be dropped? All the way or partial? Would different eng mounts help?

440-200 headers. 2" primary, 3.5 collectors. Exhaust is TTI 3" front to back with an H pipe and Borla XR-1 SS mufflers. It goes right to the bumpers with double rolled slash cut tips. The factory tips are restrictive and also change the sound do to their size and design.

Which Edelbrock heads?

Some of their headers will only work with raised port heads if you have a low deck block. (i.e. victor eddy heads)

These headers (http://www.ttiexhaust.com/MoparClassics-Headers/400SR-218/TTi400SR-218.htm) will work with standard port heads like the Eddy EZ street, performer and performer RPm)

Thanks for the info, not worth change to me from the Schumacher headers to the 2" TTI's for only .4 of difference compared to what my car runs now. Plus I like the room around the motor.

The main reason I switched is I needed a new set of headers anyhow as mine had been repaired a few times. I also needed a new exhaust. So my best bet was to go all TTI.
