Not that I am interested but is there a SO number stamped on the the top of the bellhousing mount area on top on the right side of the block behind the right head. Someone might be looking for a numbers engine.

Let's clear this up now!! I have looked for number behind the driver's head on the lip that mounts the bellhousing, also on pass side, the pad located above pan rail at bottom of block, pad below the dist mount, all to no help. On the pad below the dist mount is stanped D 383 then farther down the letter R is stamped. Could this be a replacement or service block?? This block is std. now with no gouges or deep pits. I want it to end up in a-body.

If I'm not mistaken,In 1968 .If it had numbers on it,they'd be where the engine and trans meet on the top

I think , with this info, it was a replacement engine. Warranty. The "R"

Just got back in town, I have looked high and low for a vin on this block and found nothing. I got this in a pile of mopar parts the guy had collected for years. I'm going to answer all inquires asap. I've been gone to see family in Utah.

Interested in block for my 67 Dart GTS car, if still available....

The block and bracket are for sale to the first cash buyer. I could trade for sure-grip, with 3:91 gears. Will crate and drop off at fastenal,, or shipper of your choice, possible delivery to L.A. area, so cal, Vegas, Utah, Montana, so Idaho. Have semi-driver goes to Ca. weekly. I'd like to see it in a-body. Let's talk.

Just because this came out of an A-body doesn't mean it's a "factory installed style/type" A-body block. Your pics show this. Any 383 will fit in an A-body.
Must be an over the counter 383 block replacement for any style body (no VIN).
Surprised davescuda hasn't elaborated on this???
Not sure why your hung up on this going into an A-body? Just sell it for the first $$$$

Thanks for the info!! I didn't know all 383 blocks had the drilled 2 bosses on driver's side front of block. I'm sure Shumacher or some one makes a adapter motor mount to put b-block in a-body k-frame, I have the bracket to make it like factory big block car. Thanks again.

If my memory is correct, you are correct that all 383 blocks were not drilled and tapped for the A body mount just like all 440 blocks, although different than the 383 were not drilled and tapped for A body mounts

This is not a factory A body block but will work in an A body. I have a body 383 motors

Those tapped holes could be used for other accessories such as power steering? Anybody could have drilled and tapped those holes. I have a '69 440 block that has the tapped holes above the oil filter which is where a 440 A-body motor mount is mounted......that doesn't mean it's a factory 440 A-body motor..........
There is one distinct fact that all factory 383 A-body blocks had machined off the block from the factory which the pics show is not.

C Body 383 are also drilled they also have the same bracket.
Warranty block is perfect for somebody needing one for a factory 383 car that was cast after their build date if their car doesnt have one. Its not as desirable as a numbers matching block, but since these things were driven hard i am sure some of em went pop and had warranty engines installled with the corporate 5-50 warranty of the time.

S is special in 69 and Orange so I believe that is A-body , not sure about 68 maybe they were similar. R seemed to carry over as regular fuel 2barrell low compression. So I would guess C-body block.

Always thought warranty had a tag with a screw type rivet attached near the front right side core plug.

man thats pricy for a 65 c body b or rb motor drivers side bracket . there the same .
I don't claim to know everything about a-bodys, I haven't seen any c-bodies with that mount bracket installed on the tapped holes. To be fair I'll sell for best cash offer, if not I'll stash it for use in a 68 valiant 2dr. post. Thanks again for all the info.

do you have the big block k member as well ? its required to use that bracket on the drivers side engine mount . thats 65 c body with 361 383 b or 413 426 rb engines only .

WOW!! so every 65 c-body uses that bracket and all 65 B and RB blocks are cast with those 2 mount/threaded bosses. If they were installed in a c-body. I don't normally take the k-frame out of any c-bodies, I mainly use the imperial frame pieces. I don't have any 65 k-frames. I just don't remember c-bodies with that bracket. When I get some time I'll go look at my friend's yard for c-bodies that use that bracket, and 65 blocks with threaded bosses on driver's side front. I'll post my findings later.

I never said only A body engined were drilled. I said not all 383 blocks were drilled. As a matter of fact the 440 in my 69 1/2 A12 Road Runner is drilled and tapped for the A body mount.
