Who makes the best valve bodies for a torqueflight 727 in a 400 hp 383. Are they reconditioned or new? Street strip (I want to be able to get a smooth shift in Drive, but be able to shift with slap stick without tearing it up. No racing (on track). I have a race kit in it now and it won'f downshift until a complete stop. Accelerating in 3rd at 5 mph just doesn't seem right. Right now it has a 2400 TC and a 3.91

There are many ways to approach this. In my 74 Challenger, I've got the TF-SC shift kit by Transgo. It's the smallest kit Transgo makes, and in my application it works just fine and dandy. Normal driving, it has just a little firmer shift. However, under full throttle and banging the slap stick shifter it has a much harder shift, and despite the stock engine(tuned properly), it will bark the tires going into 2nd gear. I didn't install the kit myself, as I had a very knowledgeable builder install it for me, and I think he had a couple of tricks up his sleeve to improve the kit from what Transgo had intended. No complaints though from me or the wife.
The next step up is the Transgo TF-2 shift kit. In drive it will shift normally (although much firmer), and manually shifting it, it shifts quite hard.
I don't know that I'd look for anything other than a stock valve body and then put in whatever kit you think suits you best.
Other than some hard core race valve bodies, I don't know of anybody making NEW valve bodies for the TF.

JMHO

This could also be an option but you'd want more feedback to be certain I think.

CRT 727-904 Pro Street Automatic Shift Valve Body | Cope Racing | Cope Racing

I used the turbo action pro street valve body. It works very well!! The cope racing pro street is also a very good option to go with. Also not mentioned A&A transmission has nice valve bodies. Another company to consider is SMR transmissions. They also have great 727 components.:)
