Ok I took the front cylinder out if the shock bumper on my 75 duster. How do I take the inner spring out?

I have seen them explode in a car fire, not sure what is in them, but oil and some kind of foam that can compress

guess that depends what you want to do. I don't think they are in any way serviceable. I had mine apart as far as you are now and reassembled.

I want to eliminate them. I' gonna use a chop saw cut the the backside off and pull the spring out. Then push them all the way in and tack them in place.

Are you sure all that is necessary? I just drilled a large hole in the shock and drained the oil, after that they compressed easily to where I wanted the bumper to sit and we welded them there.

Year' ago I thought I did the same. But the mechanical spring on these don' allow that.

Did you remove the nut and washer from the piston shaft? From there you should be able to pull it apart. If it is a little stuburned, put a small scissors jack or friction jack in between the two flanges and give it some pressure. Then cut the inner piston down to about half it's length and slide it back into the outer sleeve. Weld it up

Why couldn't you cut the end of the inner can off then remove the spring, slide it back into the outer can and tack It back to outer can? Seems like a lot of work for nothing the other way.
