heyya mopardom,
I am beating the bushes trying to find a purple shaft cam.. part # p5007695. only new will do..anyone have one in their stash???? appreciate the help...

The purple shafts are discontinued and very hard to find at all never mind there insane pricing as of late.

What are those specs for the purple cam?

Look to other manufacturers for similar specs.

.....................
I bought a disassembled 360 last fall.
The guy told me it had a purple shaft cam.
It did have a purple paint stripe on the rough area between front bearing and first lobe.
I don't remember finding a Mopar p/n either.
I can dig it out and check.

is there a particular reason for only that cam?
yes, it will replace the one I wiped a lobe on... and I liked it.. sucks at idle .. but pulled pretty damn hard over 3 grand..

I believe it had a 114 degree centerline and was designed for better driveability.. and driveability is a relative term..it just worked with my combo.

O.K...you want what you had.
A custom grinder will be able to duplicate the acceleration and improve the low rpm performance.

If you don't find a new one, let me know. I have one that is almost new with the matching lifters kept in order. Broken in properly and had very little run time after that. Pics upon request.

I knew that PN sounded familiar ... the ol' 284/484. I have a soft spot in my heart for that cam. Back in the early 80's that cam was the sh*t on the street. Pulled hard and made up that bottom end with a little more stall & gears. If new customized and off the shelf cam profiles weren't being offered, I'd continue to use that old workhorse of a cam. Btw: I know I have a couple of new purples in storage but I think the hyd cam is a 271/471 and the other is a solid 292/571 or 592(?).

Summit and jegs still offer the other more common mopar cams. But rumble is right they want a small fortune!:( sometimes ebay and even craiglist might score the grind you are after for less. However, that grind is not as good the tighter lobe grind of 284 cam. I got lucky and found the 292 cam for about 160 with lifters new in box.

The used one sounds like a good bet. Just make sure lifters go in as they were before. And make sure to use high zinc break in oil like Lucas. Also use a good cam lube like isky assembly lube or redline. Don't skimp on these items to ensure proper cam survival!!:)
