how to align?

To the OP.......It sounds as though you have the engine out of the car, you could have just hefted the FW up into place on the back of the engine and attempted to bolt it up, you had a 1 in 6 chance to get it the first time, had it NOT lined up you then had the opportunity to keep trying till you did get it right and LEARN something on your own, some times there is no greater satisfaction.

A tip for when you torque up the flywheel bolts.....so that you are not chasing the flywheel as it turns as you try to tighten the bolts, slip a pin punch, screw driver(round shank), bolt, thru one of the pressure plate mounting bolt holes so it will come to rest against the block from the under side and not allow the FW to turn
