Can someone tell me what the 4th digit for a 73 dart sport is suppose to be? Looking at what is suppose to be a 73 dart sport that has been made into a 72 duster. Thanks

That's what I thought. I saw this car advertised as a 1973 Dart , duster clone. 4th digit in the vin is a 3 (hardtop). I'm finding it hard to believe that someone went through all the trouble to change a hardtop into a duster. Kinda makes me think something is fishy??

Probably changed out the dash, what are the rest of the VIN numbers. LL23C3R would be a typical slant six 73 dart 2-door hardtop

Yes, that dash is from a 73 Dart Swinger 2-door hardtop with a 318. You should check the VIN number on the drivers side of the core support if it is visible, most times it is either painted over too much or under the antifreeze label.

that VIN is from 318 dart swinger....the 6th digit does confirm it is from a 1973 car......so the LH is from a swinger not a dart sport.......for 1973 the first 2 digits should be LL for a dart sport not LH like you have........the only exception was the 340 dart sport in 1973 and they were LM

What would the code for a "Dart Sport" be?

In 1973 it is LL for a dart sport .......the only exception was the 340 dart sport in 1973 and they were LM

In 1974 it is also LL for dart sport ....although the 360 dart sport got the LM designation

What would the code for a "Dart Sport" be?
LL29 or LM29 if it were a '73 340 car.
29 refers to the body style which is a fastback (Duster, Dart Sport, Demon)
VL29 would be a Duster or VS29 is a Duster 340.
LL23 is a Swinger.

My advise? RUN.... that is a VIN swapped nightmare, someone committed a federal offense (felony) by putting a 73 dart hardtop VIN on a dart sport body. The actual car body could have been stolen for all you know.

I know in CT you need three matching VINs. So the tag, door sticker or fender tag, plus the radiator support have to match. Any out of state car (or one without CT paperwork history) requires a VIN verification. Otherwise it has to be registered under a generic state-issued VIN just like a home-built kit car would. So if it were me I would talk to the seller about the rest of the numbers and either he takes the car back or you get the right dash vin for the body.

That is a 72 Duster with a 73 Dart swinger dash. The tops of the interior doors and quarters say it is not a 73 body. The firewall and holes in the pass fender well say it is a 72 AC body. The heater controls are 73/ You will find the vin number right behind the drivers side rear speaker from inside the trunk. Car could be stolen with a dash swap. I would Take the vin out of the trunk and have your local police run the last 6 of the vin. The car also has a early 72 deck lid. There is to much of a 72 there for it to be a 73 car

I've told you before, you should write a book!!

Sounds like some pieced together bullshit. No way would I even consider it.

I have moved on. Too many things to consider with a vin situation like that. I'm surprised a dealership of this size would even list a car like that.

I also believe is a pieced together car, but I have a first week build 73 that has the metal sail panels, and medallions in the seats.
It has drove me nuts over the years buying parts for it since 73 is kinda, a change over year.
