Hi guys, I'm going through some parts for Carlisle and I have a sets of 67 Cuda grills where the studs are spinning. Any crafty tricks for this situation? My last resort is to cut them but I really don't want to.

If your talking inside track, Ive used 2 part epoxy using tooth picks to dab bothsides of stud on bottom of track.

Ok, let me be very specific. I'm trying to remove the grilles from the header panel. For those that don't know there's 3/8" nuts on BLIND STUDS. In other words the studs are not accessible.

Try to put pressure on the panel like try to separate it with a screwdriver GENTLY. Might do it by putting pressure on the studs and be able to spin the nuts off.

Grind off the nuts.
Usually the studs are a very coarse thread so they should back out of the grille.
Back them all out.
Then work at getting nuts off.

Grab stud with a vise grip and turn nut til it reaches vise grip, should be enough space to grab it below nut.

All this takes time and patience, different situations need different methods.

I just went through this on my 68. I soaked them
With some pb blaster which helped a couple. Then I broke out the propane torch and heated them. Once hot I hit them with some more pb blaster. And tried getting the nuts off. This took care of all but three of them. With those I heated them, pb blaster and then held th very top of the threads with a pair of linesman’s pliers while breaking the nut loose with a wrench. I was able to remove all of them this way with only a few minor burns from touching the hot part. All in all it took about an hour to get them out.

I thought you meant if they were already off the car and the stud was spinning in the track.

I’ve encountered this many times on 67-8 grilles. I’ve had some success with applying pressure by pulling against the stud while trying to loosen the Palnut, and if it’s still in the car, that may be the only way. If it’s out of the car, you may be able to slip the end of a small flathead screwdriver under the head of the stud to try to keep it from turning, or grind a small slot in the head of the stud and try to keep it from spinning with a flat blade screwdriver!

I believe it's just a small headed stud pressed in a thin flat to keep them from turning. If they are spinning and the grilles are still on the header panel, as others, I'd say you're doing some die grinding or rotary burr work. I think the grilles would need to be disassembled to replace any broke or cut off studs. Member partsmonsta could tell you for sure but I haven't seen any recent posts by him.
Extreme, but as a last resort option, maybe you could pull the heads through with a good set of vise-grips.

I seem to remember the studs on my '68 were long enough to thread 2 more nuts on the stud and lock them together by tightening one against the other, then hold with one wrench and tighten/loosen the grill nuts.
