Is anyone else "touchy" about their Mopar? (long rant...)

I would have just chuckled with him and said "yeah, got some work ahead of me" with a smile. Then add "but I kind of like the patina, so maybe i'll leave it" and let him stumble for words after choking on his own foot :)

It's obvious he would have felt stupid because he didn't know the car was yours.
