Yeah, guessing it broke the seal I had. Looks like I’ll have to be more liberal with the sealer next time. I hate that word liberal, gives me the willy’s!
Seriously. More is not better. Just right is bestest. :) You don't want excess blobs getting forced into the coolant. The stuff Keith posted should work well. Loctite has two or three versions as well. Differences are subtle, none critical.
Critical is the threads are good. These pipe sealants will have trouble with a stripped out thread. They don't ever become rock hard. Some guy was having problems (posted in the forum) and claimed these thread sealants don't work for headers. Well, they don't work for him because his heads have a hole, not because the temperature is too hot or some other thing. The temperature in the hole is pretty close to that of the coolant - not the 1200 * of the exhaust. :rolleyes:
Any chance you can get studs reinstalled? Even if they have to be shortened a little, I prefer them. I know, sometimes there's just no room. Figured I'd ask.
