Preventing pitts

Chrome doesn't rust, it is the ferrous metal underneath that does. Scratches through the chrome plating is what allows the oxidation. Just seal from oxygen, outside air ( wax, clear coat etc). It will never rust. Have the plastic "rechromed". The current plastics technology has advanced a lot in recent years.
