Duster Speaker Delete Dilemma

Years back when I was putting my dash back together, I did not install the speaker. I had visions of a kick a$$ system, blue tooth capable, USB, pre amp out puts CD, Sirius Satellite and so on. Reality eventually brings me back down to earth. Now that I finally have my '75 Duster back on the road, I found myself yearning for some form of tuneage while rolling down the warm, sunny, and beautiful Indiana roads. I have no idea where the original speaker is. A treasure hunt ensued. It was like trying to find a pearl in an oyster I imagined. There was no way to telling just exactly what you had at the boneyard until a series of contractions, contortions and muscle spasm maneuvers were executed.OLDSPKR.jpg
No Pearls here! Not quite financially ready for the King Midas Music System, opted for the Chrysler Solid State Solution.

Now-How to resolve the speaker situation. I used the mounting bracket on the right in the upper photo to create a template. I traced the dimensions onto stock from Menards. I found a cheap pair of speakers that fit the template.Template.jpg

I installed one of the speakers onto the new mounting plate.

Utilizing the previous maneuvers mastered during the speaker extraction process; I simply installed the new speaker. (Simply is simply not the right word) Process was further complicated with my floor shift conversion. Speaker cleared all components under the dash. The passenger side was a pain due to the heater controls support bracket. I used the connectors pictured above to wire factory radio output to new speaker. And even though I still have no feeling in my left leg, I am now rocking NPR, all kinds interesting talk radio, and festive music from only God knows where.....And when the AM Air waves just wont satisfy the need for some Stones, Zep, Floyd, Who, or even some new Greta Van Fleet, this is a good relatively cheap option from Bose ($99).
