6.1 Hemi 69 Barracuda Fastback Father Son Project

The lifters are designed to cut cylinders via deactivation while cruising on the highway (to improve Mileage)
The Knock sensors cut back the timing if there is any detonation.
keep up the great build!

It's a 2006 Magnum SRT8 6.1 so no VVT or MDS
I think the EFI Source MS3 Gold Box and Harness may have Knock Sensor provisions. Will have to research some more.
Thanks,
Randy

The ms3 does have the knock sensor provisions. Thief harness has the plugs wires into it. Now how it all works I haven’t figured out yet because I have yet to this power to it.

Yup, I have yet to order the Gold Box or Harness. Waiting until I actually am ready for it. The speed at which technology changes... don't want to miss any new features between now and when I'm ready to fire it off...
Need to get the pilot bushing out of the crank next. Time to fire up the HF flux core welder. Maybe a couple practice welds first. Not one weld under my belt yet but I got the HF welder so I could learn...
This should be good. I'll watch a couple YouTube vids first.

Wow. I read where someone did that with grease, but not bread. I need to do that next on my 6.1, May try it.

Saw that same one and thought that was a great idea. Worth a try either way.

Going to go with a threaded rod and weld a nut as in the video.
I have doubts about the bread working on a G3 Hemi.
Chebbys? Sure, looks like no problemo for them bow ties.
G3 Hemi looks like there is no space for the bread to get behind the bushing to me.
If anyone does it with their Hemi let us know.
If you don't have it on video, it never happened. :)

Pulled the Pilot Bushing out of the end of the crank.
My first time ever welding was not pretty but was effective.
First use of my Harbor Freight flux core welder too.

Test fit the exhaust manifolds.
Tight fit but it looks like we have a winner. 09-10 Jeep 5.7 manifolds from Ma Mopar.
These have the "D" shaped ports that match the 6.1 head exhaust ports.

Now to figure out if I can adapt a steering shaft and coupler to clear the manifold...

Test fit the 727. New dipstick and tube also.

Came to the conclusion that I did not want to try to shave down the manifold and not wanting to do some double U-Joint steering so just ordered a set of TTi headers instead.
Just going to have to settle for more power... 8-)

TTi Thermal Lined with polished ceramic coating. They look even better in person.
Going to change out the rubber mounts with Poly-Locs and still may end up shimming/adjusting the position on the K-Member.
09-10 5.7 Jeep manifold left.

That looks awfully close to the steering box. How much clearance do you have there?
Not much... but there is some more fitting and adjusting the engine sitting on the K and the mounts.
May need to shim to get best fit. Won't know for sure until I get it in the car with the trans and starter.
Have to bend the dip stick tube too. to route it behind the headers and TTi mount.

Switched to Poly-Locs and gained a few mm of clearance.

Should clear the steering shaft now.

Still a ways to go before I will know if everything is going to fit.
I know it will fit...
I just won't know how much more work there will be to get it there until I do.
Next up:
Trans, TC, Flex plate, starter, pitman, idler, lower ball joints, center link, tie rods...

Having never done this combined with a G3 going into an A-Body makes it pretty slow going.
Only takes time and money... just wish I had more of both.

Steering shaft will clear. The tube on the actual column will have to be trimmed back an inch or so, to clear the bottom rear corner of the driver's side valve cover.

Thanks, good to know! Going with an aftermarket tilt column and shaft with EPAS so there will be some cutting to fit involved.

Not much progress lately. Cold in my outdoor shop. Got a little more progress on the engine, QA1 K-Member, 727, Headers, Starter, Steering and Suspension parts test fitted.
Then came Snowmageddon...

My engine is under the patio cover covered with a plastic bag on the right side.
My other outdoor shop since the garage has a Cuda and Challenger already in it...
14" on the patio cover in this picture. Received close to 2' total in 2 weeks.
It's all melting now.

Barracuda staying dry at least... My 18' x 20' Walmart Portable Carport. Coming up on 3 years...

Been working on the Gauge cluster. Needed to make the 5" holes into 4.5" holes...
Bought a couple small 1/8" sheets of ABS and used my router to cut discs to fill the opening and fit to the back of the cluster. Used a rabbit bit to put a step into 2 discs glued together for additional thickness then used a roundover bit to roundover the back side to give it a soft curve. ABS cemented the discs in place and test fit all the Speed Hut Gauges.

Original Dash Frame was too rusty. This one from Wildcat was better but still needed some work.

Going to paint, hydrdip or wrap or create some other final finish for the cluster since I will be making the glove box trim and won't be able to match the Carbon fiber look of the cluster. The glove box piece from Classic dash was crap so I sold it. I have some ideas rolling around in my head. We'll see.

Close up of one of the rings I made to make the gauge hole smaller for the Speed Hut Speedo and Tach.

I actually sent the first Bezel with Heater Control holes back to Classic Dash for one without Heater Control holes since I won't be using the factory heater controls. Classic Auto Air instead. May put the stereo in the Heater control location and the Classic Auto Air Controls in the stock radio location. May just skip having a stereo showing at all... Everything Bluetooth/Android/Apple/Satellite... The kid will have to decide. I'm just the builder/banker... I do have some influence though.
