Was thinking about all us old timers and what we did with or cars when young and dumb and all the nice cars that we had, and the new cars today and comparing them.
I had a 68 Dart 340 4 speed and would be low on gas by Thursday and not enough money to put gas in the tank to get to work on Friday and get my pay check. I worked in a body shop and had plenty of lacquer thinner and would put that in my gas tank with some engine oil to get back to work the next day. She ran fine and made it with no problems, Try that with a new car.
Living on the farm we had some tractors and trucks and a Mercedes 5 cyl. car that were all diesel. we bought a oil press and pressed canola for the oil and ran that in all or diesels. They all liked it better than diesel fuel, and the exhaust smelled like french fries. Try that with a new diesel.
Gave my old Mercedes to one of my boys after it had 300,000 mile on it, we had a 300 gallon tank that we dumped our old engine oil in and he would put that in the gas tank and run on that, it didn't idle real good but sure ran fine down the road and you would think black smoke would poor out the exhaust but never did. try that with a new car.
