Update: holes re-threaded and bolts tightened on the new threads great!
Much thanks to all of you, especially SGB for the tool recommendation. I learned a new skill and it's bound to come in handy in the future with this car. To my mind this is exactly what this Forum is for, keeping the experts sharp and helping the inexperienced (like me) to learn.
