FWIW, you can do a cam change with the engine installed.
Remove the radiator. There is a slight interference with the middle support bracket @ worst.

I pulled that middle support bracket when I did my in car cam swap. I also consumed a decent amount of advil...

I didn't manage to find any pics of that bracket removed when I did the cam swap, but it's only a few bolts and is easy enough.
