I’ve really enjoyed looking at all the custom, vintage, and original plates and frames. So I thought, sure why not. The car is my 1970 Slant6 Dodge Challenger that I purchased as a trade-in, in 1973 from the local Dodge dealership in the city I live in. Since I had just returned to SoCal from overseas I needed a job and even more a car to go to a job that I needed. But, with no money my Father stepped up and purchased this car for me (I paid him back, every penny with interest) with 40K on the clock and Dad’s wallet $1,100.00 lighter I drove away from Moss Motors Dodge in Riverside, Ca. (Which is now Moss Bros. Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler) in my ‘70 Slant6 Challenger. My only regret trading in my original Cal. blue plates for the early 80’s Cal reflective sun band plates. The license plate frames are the ones put on by the dealership.still own the car which now has 562K miles on it and she still looks great. Thanks, Al. Thanks Dad, I miss you a lot.

Before I even picked up the car in Iowa I bought a supposedly unused tag from ebay. Kansas tag used the stamped 2-letter county designation along with a bigger letter beside it which was in some cases the first letter in your last name (some letters were grouped together), then up to a five digit number. So I went with one that sort of spelled my first name, "BOB". Drove it home from Iowa with this tag, insured, but not registered. I drove for about 3 months around and out of town before finally registering the car in Kansas, but not before I got pulled over in a little town on Christmas evening. Oddly enough for no tag light!

He must have given up searching for the tag in the database because he let me go without even a warning.

When I went to register it they told me that that tag had been used and couldn't be used on another car. They were nice enough to let me stand there and browse ebay while they told me if the tags for sale were truly unused and unregistered. I ended up with the antique tag for awhile which is okay, but I need to get in and transfer the vintage tag I bought transferred to the registration.

The "DG" tag works for me twice as it is the county my mother is from, Douglas, and the "B" is the first letter of her maiden name, Brizendine, or could be for "Bob". Also the "DG" stands for "Dodge Green" or "Dart Green" at least in my head! I just thought of another lame connection. My sister's name is Brenda and her birthday is 52268 - so clooooooose :)

The last photo is my 1970 Dart that I foolishly sold for almost no money in 1992 while I was away at college. It had a personalized tag that said DARTNLO. The broadcast showed that it rolled off the assembly line on my 1st birthday. I kick myself daily.

Anyway... that was a lot of story for 4 plates, but here they are!

I like it, I was thinking of doing my tail stripe in a Green Arrow style and see if anybody gets it. (not my car, just a mockup in photoshop of my plans)

Thinking pretty much on the lines as you, like just a little flare for the stripe, thinking about this picture thanks to @Ddaddy I am thinking poison on the dart shaft in a nice shade of blue, centered on the rear stripe. I have not the chance to research this yet, either a static vinyl sticker or magnetic as well.

Have had that as a vanity plate for 25 plus years. Once the cars got old enough I got it in a collector car form.

On the front I have an almost perfect 1970 plate I found in my father in laws garage. Just the rear personal plate is registered

First car was a 70 340/4 spd Duster back in 74, explaining the plate. IA winters turned it to rust, but enjoying this one just as much

Thats crazy Mike, my previous Duster was red also. Not nearly as nice as yours. Love that car. Even the old building behind it looks like the car shop I worked in on the Burlington Northern RR in the 70's. Right on !

Here in the Mitten, we have the same year plate option at the SOS, so I always buy a pair of those and register them for life, it’s only $35. I love the look of the same year plate!

That's awesome! Thanks, it is still in great shape for an older late 80's "resto" one of the prev owners painted it and did the eng/tranny back in '89. Was your old duster a 70 or 71 style?
