Just had an interesting phone call with my CEO.
I gave him an update on current manufacturing timing, and then...just as he was about to hang up...I said “we need to have a long chat about my future at this company”
I could hear the fear in his voice as he asked what I meant.
I told him that he had brought in a new guy or sit over me and I know that he has left me out of the meeting with the buyers of the other company that I work for through him and I am concerned.
I explained that I am a “simple straight forward guy” and he knows that. (interpret, I am playing checkers)
He tap danced for a bit and I pretended to be assuaged...then the call was over. Afterward, he sent me 2 text messages trying to explain everything. (More tap dancing).
He has no idea that I made a very specific and strategic move by having this conversation.
I play chess...not checkers.
Queen to bishop five...
Checkmate.
