I have a Geo tracker that is in excellent shape and I wouid like to keep it that way. I want to paint underneath the carpet, there’s some light surface rust and that’s it. I wouid like to undercoat to help with the cab noise but will this actually seal and not allow water to get trapped? I’ve seen a lot of cars with undercoat that was peeling and very rusty underneath but I assume that was poor prep. Is there a better product ?
I know it’s not a Mopar but there’s a lot of expierience on this site.

I did something similar to this in a 1984 power ram I had. Pulled all the old carpet out, cleaned up all the rust, scuffed up and cleaned the floor. I used a gallon of herculiner roll on bed liner, probably too much but it was fine. Completely sealed the floor. And what was good about it is that you could scrub it clean and rinse it if needed.

As for the cab noise, you could buy a roll of sound Deadening material and put that between the floor and the carpet.

For sound, I think your best bet is laying a material under the carpet. I can't see any spray really offering any sort of sound deadening. Dynamat is too expensive in my opinion and there are good alternatives out there for much less.

I've actually been looking up spray on bedliners recently for my truck. There was a good review I found on youtube that compared several brands in a durability test. Just FYI, one guy from a body shop told me that the roll on stuff is better and far superior to the spray applications.

Wouldn't it be better to spray under the body rather than under the carpet inside the car? I don't really see what good that would do.

Evidently Phaelax has never looked at the front floors and trunk of a a body or b body, them big rust holes came from under the carpet and in the spare tire well holding water, not from underneath them, and that being a tracker he is wanting to cover the floor from inside is a good ideal ,especially if its a rag top and some times get caught in a rainstorm, with the top down, While bed liner might not quieten it, i done my 2008 ram bed when it was new and if you park on an incline in a rainstorm ,you will have a foot of water against front of the bed, i had to take out a front drain plug so it wouldn't hold water.I have nevr saw any rust on my truck bed floor or sides. GO FOR IT

POR 15 over rust and topcoat with a quality undercoat.

Robert hit the nail on the head. I actually had about 3” of water on the floor when I crossed a river last summer, I had to pull my carpet out to get everything dry.
Roccodart, I’ve read about por 15 and actually have a tin of brush on and would love to use it but the surface rust I’m talking about I think I will be able to remove it with a buffing wheel so I’m not sure if por 15 is ideal. I know people say it will peel if used on new metal but what about old metal with no rust ? Or is that defeating the purpose ?

You do not want to use POR 15 on shiny metal. Wire brush it, blow it off and brush your POR 15.
