Small Block Windage Trays Exist in Different Profiles?
This morning I got all my chores done early and was looking for something else to do. Some years ago I purchased two small block oil pans and never opened the shipping box. Well, Christmas is here and Santa brought me nothing (bad boy?) so I open the box.
I pull out two small block oil pans with the number "394" stamped into the bottom of each one. Not sure of the specific application of the 394 oil pan. The pans were stuck together, to save shipping space, so I pulled them apart.
Lo and behold and much to my surprise, I windage tray had been packed between the two oil pans! I pulled out the primed windage tray I had in the garage from a used California 340 I purchased to compare the two.
I noticed two discrepancies right off the bat, the bolt attachment holes are oval/elongated on the one that came in the box. And the cut-outs in the sheet metal are different between the two, both front and rear cutouts. Not what I expected to find.
I'm going without the windage tray in my 340 build because the deepened pan I purchased has a scraper and baffles, so the windage tray is a moot point at the moment. I would still like to know the application for the "394" oil pans though. Thank you.
