So this weekend I had a Bantam hockey tournament so time on car was limited. I did however attempt to install the P/U tube and change out the windage tray. Epic fail! When you do this conversion you have to get a different oil pan which is a center pickup vs the factory forward pickup. As the factory pan creates an impedance with the rack and pinion setup. My K frame is an HDK so I have lots of room for headers etc. very nicely built by the way. So anyway I get the factory windage tray off and make sure new one fits etc. I bolt the P/U tube in place and it is a perfect fit....... well except for the whole pointed outside the oil pan part. At this point I am thinking clearly I am an idiot and it must mount somewhere else. Nope, it is in right spot. The only conclusion is that mother Milodon had a jig malfunction during manufacture as the part numbers indicate I have the correct part. Did I mention I waited all summer for the stupid part. Being a welder my solution to everything is to slash and weld. I was so frustrated this summer over the delay I was going to slash and fabricate my own from donor parts. Hemi Denny talked me off the ledge and implored me to be patient. It pays to have wise friends!
