I'm new here.
But I've played with type two cudas since the early 80's.
I've owned two E-bodies.
1. 1971 340 Challenger pre spec car? You know the ones, somebody put packages together to send to dealership's to display the new model year cars.
It was a highly option car.
Sassy grass, luggage rack, hood pins (no R/T hood).
Hounds tooth ckoth insert seats, it was weird when I worked on certain parts I found 70 stuff was used, the rear valance was mounted like a 70,( if I remember correctly)
It was my mother's car, I remember being 9yrs old and seeing my parents come home in it
Even at that young age I was completely blown away by the look of that car. White vinyl roof, in 71 we all know that the wide back seams was impossible to get anyplace. Lol well back then early 80,s there wasn't really anything repoped and the only way to improve on what you had was throu labour's hours of driving looking befriended other Mopar nuts like me.
In fact I was kinda sad when all u had to do was make a call and throw your wallet at the problem.
It took away most of the actual fun and excitement that I had learned to love.
Oh, lol and I had a 72 340 challengeC rally 4sp car, hemi orange with black roof.
3;55 sure grip car, this one was already non numbers matching and was perfect for extra high performance goodies.
Lol when I sold that car, the first guy who came to look at it I took him down the road sideways thru the gears, his jaw dropped and it was sold. I don't think he really looked at the car much.
That's it for E-bodies, they didn't handle worth a darn compared to the A-bodies.
The A-bodies hooked up much better handled much better stopping much better.
So other than the cool body lines they sucked (my personal opinion)
A-bodies I've owned. ( I might forgot a couple)
1. 67 273 4sp two Barrell car with air conditioning. Loved that car so much.
2. 67 383 formula-s 4spd.red and black
3. 67 383 formula-s:auto, red and black interior. Did they all come with that color combo? Seems like it.
4. 68 340-s convertible 4sp,teal blue white interior. it's still around here I think.
5. 68 340-s coupe auto, dark green w/blck interior .
Several 318 donor cars with Cool packages, I've drug them home from Arizona to Seattle, canadC to Seattle, Oregon, etc.
Ok, as far as 68's go I can't remember them all.
69 340 4sp coupe with manual disc brakes and manual fast ratio steering.( Exactly how I'd had ordered one.
And right now I'm finishing a 69 340 convertible with insane number matching stuff .
RsdiaRad,inta in, exhaust, distributor, tranny, ever everyti check is right, I'd bet the exhaust system is original as r the shocks.
Steally wheels. So this car will be as concourse as I can make it.
And mind you I've done all the work in my garage.
I'm an aerospace machinist by trade.
So rebuilding mechanical stuff has always come easy for me.
I did all the bodywork, up to the finish coat, lol I didn't want to risk messing up all the untold hours of work I'd put into it.
I'll upload some pictures.
If anybody has any questions about what is right for a model year, I'd be glad to assist as best as I can.
I have a few parts hanging around in the garage. A complete 340 4spd set up including Hurst linkage.
Ok, I have to get to work on said car or it will never get done. ( I'm 56, and this will be the last time I jump into anything this intense as far as labor goes)
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
Lol
Peace

Welcome to the forum.
Thank you very much kind sir.
Ok that's a little over the top. Lol.
But really dude, it's a pleasure to be here, and I plan on sticking around.
I found this place trying to find out what, who and why some 69 barracuda's came with a black lower half of the instrument panal.
The best I've fiund that maybe right was on this site.
There was back and forth and the guy who wanted to know countered with documents that proved otherwise.
He said it was part of the spring package.
But that isn't even right from what I've dug up.
Dave layson said it was black on formula-s car's .
Not true, I found original pics of original cars with the lower part black with chrome trim.
So seems as I need a restored dash panel.
And all I can find is "it's just a ma Mopar thing .
Really after hours of looking for what came on my 69 it came down to there all silver now because that's just cheaper and not many people are into this for passion. ( Let me interrupt)
Dave layson is very passionate, I knew him when he hassled his folks to get a few things repoped.
They were into international supply and demand with connections in China .
Well the rest is history .
So back to my freaking dash delema. Lol
I'm going to pay extra for a proper chrome trimmed black lower dash bezel .
I know huh?
How can we all not know the answer to this riddle.
Mopars rule!!
Peace
