how much horsepower can the 904 take?

I appreciate all of your knowledge. I believe that I am convinced that I should stay with my 904. One last question, is it reasonable to keep the pushbutton shifter with the performance I am suggesting, 400 HP street and show car. Or, would it be best to convert to a floor shifter?
