how much horsepower can the 904 take?

So far I have not been able to find a performance torque converter for my 64 pushbutton 904. Therefore, I have to ask, should I use a 67 and up 904 and convert to a floor shift, in order to do what I want. The torque converters all indicate 67 and up.
