On the Contrary: The Cast Tubular headers were Very effective, with their Long'sh tube-branch Mid pipes. Go ask Cotton Owens (Racer turned Tuner of the Time )
Most probably didn't run them because of over counter cost/availability for 413/426 or you had to have Privilege of probably factory backed 2 x 4 wedge/Hemi, where most then produced went: the race specials to who's who.
