Need some input on what torque con. company I should go with. Several out
there and I'm wondering what converter you are using. 410 storker around 550 HP, Cam is 273/281 640 lift solid roller cam. Shift point will be about 7000 to 7400. 4:88 gears with 26 in. tall tires. 2700 pound car w/driver. 4500 to 5500 stal. To Little to much ? what company do you all recommend ? Thanks

It's best to talk to the converter manufacturer 1st to determine what stall is best for your application. I prefer dynamic, ptc, turbo action and fti in no particular order. Those stall ranges don't sound to outrageous however.

Forgot about ultimate. Also I vaguely recall Edge converters. It used to be mentioned here often as being good and also affordable. Just don't know if they are still around.

I have heard only good things about PTC. Everyone I know that deals with them says that when you call tech support, that Kenny or Lane is on the other end of the phone.

I've got a 4 speed, but word on the street on the westside of Indy is that PTC is pretty awesome to deal with.

Give Lenny at Ultimate a call he's the "BEST" in the business know several guys who will use nothing but his converters:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I haven't heard anything bad about ultimate either, I had forgotten about them or would have mentioned them, too.

Heres my vote.

I really like ultimate. It would be my go to in a purpose built high dollar extreme power application for whatever type of racing.

I’ve had Lenny’s converters (Ultimate) in my cars for over 20 years. I’ve felt no need to go elsewhere. They’ve always fit, never have leaked, no weld issues, pretty quick turn around when sending back for adjustments if required. I’ve really not felt the need to go elsewhere....

Hughes Convertor in Arizona built my converter. 6000 stall driven on the street is not an easy task and they hit it on the head.

Building a converter that is capable of a 6000 rpm stall/flash speed that could still lock up enough in a street car during cruising enough to not constantly boil fluid over and cook the transmission in short order would have been an impossibility not too far ago in the past. IMO, It probably would have even been considered as a black art that could not be achieved by the hands of mortal man. Throughout most of the 90's, 4500-5000 rpm stall on the street was really pushing the limits of what was doable with the best technology available at the time. The best converters then were still far too loose to be considered much of a "Driver", as in limited cruising speed/distance without scorching fluid and changing transmission fluid more than having to change engine oil.

Using an Ultimate converter in our 71 Dart with 410....The converter is set up to flash to 5400 rpms...

with 4:88 gears with 26 in. tall tires....you are going to be spinning the crap unless you are only running 1/8

I have my oil pan off fixing a leak, and just noticed that there is a tooth missing on my hughs convertor starter ring. That is going to be a pain in the *** !! BEEN running hi stall convertors for 50ish years, first time that has happened !!

call these places and get on built for you. make sure you are 100% honest about your combo and intended use or you will not be happy no matter who you use.

my last two converters were from dynamic. love them both...
