Before I even picked up the car in Iowa I bought a supposedly unused tag from ebay. Kansas tag used the stamped 2-letter county designation along with a bigger letter beside it which was in some cases the first letter in your last name (some letters were grouped together), then up to a five digit number. So I went with one that sort of spelled my first name, "BOB". Drove it home from Iowa with this tag, insured, but not registered. I drove for about 3 months around and out of town before finally registering the car in Kansas, but not before I got pulled over in a little town on Christmas evening. Oddly enough for no tag light!
He must have given up searching for the tag in the database because he let me go without even a warning.
When I went to register it they told me that that tag had been used and couldn't be used on another car. They were nice enough to let me stand there and browse ebay while they told me if the tags for sale were truly unused and unregistered. I ended up with the antique tag for awhile which is okay, but I need to get in and transfer the vintage tag I bought transferred to the registration.
The "DG" tag works for me twice as it is the county my mother is from, Douglas, and the "B" is the first letter of her maiden name, Brizendine, or could be for "Bob". Also the "DG" stands for "Dodge Green" or "Dart Green" at least in my head! I just thought of another lame connection. My sister's name is Brenda and her birthday is 52268 - so clooooooose :)
The last photo is my 1970 Dart that I foolishly sold for almost no money in 1992 while I was away at college. It had a personalized tag that said DARTNLO. The broadcast showed that it rolled off the assembly line on my 1st birthday. I kick myself daily.
Anyway... that was a lot of story for 4 plates, but here they are!
